ONE OF THE WORLD'S MOST SUSTAINABLE FOODS
Mussel farming is regarded as one of the world's most sustainable methods of food production and the Blue Mussels we farm are a naturally occurring species in the waters of the South Coast of NSW. The lease area of our Mussel farm is 0.4% of the total area of the bay and we’re the only aquaculture operation permitted to operate in the Marine Park. One of the benefits of farming in Jervis Bay is that there is a continual flow of water, which enters the bay on the southern side and flushes out near the seabed on the northern side, resulting in exceptional water quality year round.
OUR STORY
HOW WE FARM
We farm our Blue Mussels in an area of the pristine Jervis Bay Marine Park, NSW using sustainable social and environmental practices.
Our mussels are grown on longlines which suspend in the water column from a horizontal line supported by surface buoys. The mussels grow along this structure, and have minimal impact on the surrounding marine environment.
Requiring no additives or inputs, all that they need in order to grow is care and clean, nutrient-rich seas. Being so close to Sydney, we’re proud to supply customers with mussels that are fat, fresh and affordable.
HEALTHY AND
NUTRIENT-RICH
The meeting place of the warm East Australian Current and the cooler currents from the Bass Strait, the waters of Jervis Bay are exceptionally clean and rich in nutrients, making it an ideal environment in which to grow big, healthy mussels.
Mussels are a delicious and sustainable food source, high in protein and packed with vitamins and minerals essential to health such as omega-3 fatty acids, selenium and Vitamin B12.
